Sun Valley Fire by David DeMulle'

Sun Valley Fire by David DeMulle

A fire erupted at 04:00 am today at the Sun Valley Waste Management Counstruction & Demolition sorting facility.  It took firefighters over 5 hours to quench the fire, and an additional 3 hours to extinguish it.  It required the LAFD Dozer Unit to demolish the piled rubbish so that the firefighters could lay a stream of water and foam on the smoldering debris.

Marvin Hamlish Is Gone by David DeMulle

Marvin Hamlish Is Gone.

Michael Feinstein and Marvin Hamlish at the POPs

by David DeMulle'

It is with great regret that we announce the death of Marvin Hamlish at 68 yesterday.  At the Pasadena POPs presentation last month, Hamlish was seen to be having trouble moving about.  No one could have thought that he was ailing.

Hamlisch is best known for the song he wrote for Barbara Streisand "The Way We Were," In a music career that spanned over four decades, Hamlisch won every major music award: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony, and three Golden Globes.

In his career, Hamlisch composed the music for more than forty motion picture scores, which included “The Way We Were” and “The Sting.”  Hamlish’s signature music was created to compliment the movie, and not his music.

In his Broadway productions, Hamlish created the smash hit “A Chorus Line” which still goes through my mind when times are stressful.

Michael Krajewski a Guest Conductor, will conduct La Dolce Vita next week at the Pasadena POPs.

WORDS FROM A DISCOURAGED PATRIOT

WORDS FROM A DISCOURAGED PATRIOT
as told to David DeMulle', Editor of The Foothills Paper

……..Cindy and Mark will have competed their campaign to get rid of
all independent thinkers not under their control. Everyone knows
this is the power grab game finally being played out right before
everyone's eyes.

Dan McManus knew it, and kept them both in check. He always looked
my way and made sure I was heard, even though Mark always made sure
my mike was off. (It was a running joke. You may not have
noticed. They kept you out of things.)

Everyone who sat near me on the Board was always astonished to find
their mikes never worked. It is why I always made sure I had the
wireless one. Think back on it. Nothing that happening in there was
an accident. All my bills and money requests strangely never made it
to the agenda. You know nothing of the games they played for
years. Why do you think so many brilliant people left in disgust?
Were is Elaine Brown? Steve Crouch? They used to fight them all the
time! They wore them out, as they are me.

Cindy and Mark have finally created a bland white bread board in an
image and likeness of themselves.

The city knows. I have already heard even this week from a current
city employee, that the STNC is now a former shadow of itself, and
soon will be a total joke. Now the city will no longer have to worry
about the famous STNC.

It is becoming a nice shiny quiet polite empty shell -- one saying
just the right things to keep just the right few in power.

It will finance fireworks and parades and do nothing else of
substance that will rock their political boat.

Just what certain local petty powers want.

Cindy once said to me: "The purpose of the STNC is to serve the City
Council member, and not the public!" She actually said this when I
had an idea for helping the homeless before it got too big a
problem. We argued furiously. She never spoke to me again -- except
for curt nods.

Alarcon is on top of it here in S-T.

Editor David DeMulle received numerous calls that Councilman Richard Alarcon was taking a survey in Sunland-Tujunga.

A team of volunteer college students went door to door asking residents what they felt they needed to make S-T a great place to live. Questions on sidewalks, parking, trees, pot shops and street repair
s were the basics. Residents gave their own ideas, such as no food trucks, illegal parking, the K-Mart building etc. This is one of the first surveys of its kind in S-T and Councilman Alarcon made it happen. He is beginning to rank as one of the most interested councilman on record. Picture is of Alarcon volunteer Johnathon Jimenez making a call.

Sunland-Tujunga Liars are at it again

GET READY FOR A NEW RATION OF LIES!!!
by David DeMulle

As the S-T Neighborhood election comes closer, the local political
degenerates have started a new campaign of lies. So let's start
examining them one by one.

1. It is true that Mark Seigel is a thief working under orders of  Cindy Cleghorn. He stole the Best of S-T ballots and gave them to Cindy Cleghorn and Tomi-Lyn Bowling to dispose of.

2. Cindy supporter Joe Barrett did not start the No To Home Depot (N2HD) grass roots program. Nina Royal, a TFP staff member, started  it on Feb. 5th 2005 and made the first formal demand to Wend Greuel at the Glendale Bakery on Feb. 19, 2005.

3. Cindy Cleghorn has gotten rid of every opposition voice in the
STNC, refused to pay STNC bills and uses Joe Barret as her
personal hit man to attack community activists. When she
"Inadvertantly, Misplaced, some of the ballots", we knew that
the community was in trouble. But when she stated that the
ballot could not be shown to anyone because it would violate the
Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPA), we knew that she was
just building bigger and better lies.

4. And the story that I called the Post 377 Legionnaires a bunch
of drunks, you just have got to stop and think about where you
are hearing this from. I am a Legionnaire myself. Have you ever
seen me drunk?

Pasadena POPs outdoes itself
It was a wonderfully nice evening last Saturday at the Arcadia Arboreum with peacocks calling in the background.  The shuttle system worked flawlessly and the crowd was brought to the grounds without a hitch.  It was fun seeing old friends and making new friends as we sat at one of the tables.
What I didn’t understand was how Hamlisch could not handle playing the National Anthem, even if it was out of the ordinary for the POPs, it is still our National Anthem and with times as bleak as they are, a reinforcement of our American values.
Sounding like a junior high school band practice, it took a few moments for the symphony to get up to speed.  Hamlisch didn’t take that too well. “I’m pretty upset,” Hamlisch said, and “let’s try this introduction again!”  He left the stage and to a triumphant round of applause, he returned.
With people filling the venue from stage to hillcrest, this was one of the largest POPs audiences that I have ever seen.  Nothing could stop the momentum that Hamlisch and entertainer Michale Feinstein built.
The evening program covered twelve of the songs and 33 shows that Cole Porter created in his 60 year songwriting career.  This is the second of four concerts in the summer series.  Starting with his piano renditions of “Day and Night”, “I Get A Kick Out Of You”; and “It’s All Right With Me” Hamlisch made it all right again.  One of the things I liked about this concert was Hamlisch taking the time to explain how these songs were created.  Even to explaining how important the musical “Can Can” was to him and his wife and their aspirations to life in Paris.
After the intermission, Michael Feinstein an accomplished entertainer himself  accompanied himself on the piano as he sang the intricate Cole Porter songs. A young protégé, Nick Ziobro, who won this years Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, wowed the audience with his rendition of “All of Me.”  It was a really great experience, and one I recommend to one and all.

Trip to Big Tujunga Wet Lands by David DeMulle

I decided to take another trip to Robert Downs hooch before the county crews destroyed it. What I had forgotten was how beautiful the ponds are, even in the summer. The streams crossing the desert like sands were teaming with life. Crayfish, minnows, butterflies and dragonflies were everywhere, and the sound of the bubbling stream made it seem out of this world. Enjoy. Photos by David DeMulle

Robin Siegel-Meares is a Hero by David DeMulle

Robin Siegel-Meares is this weeks unsung hero for fighting off the disarranged president of the S-T chamber of commerce, Sonia Tatulian.  On July 18th, Ms. Tatulian unlawfully entered the Meares property, banged on the front door and proceeded to yell and swear at Ms. Meares.  All because of a post that Ms. Meares made on facebook about the food trucks in Sunland-Tujunga.  This attack on Ms. Meares is just one more incidence of the Tatulian chamber of commerce attacking local residents or anyone that tries to speak the truth.

Keep up the good work Robin, the truth will prevail!

Scientologists go on the offensive!            Photo of  Sue Stewart and Mark Seigel

It appears that the Scientologist block has enlisted the use of confusion in getting out of this problem.  Tomi-Lyn has now dropped out of the neighborhood council race for president, and Mark Seigel is taking her place.  Mark is the one that unlawfully entered the neighborhood council offices and removed "The Best of Sunland-Tujunga" ballots two years ago, and gave them to Cindy Cleghorn and Tomi-Lyn Bowling who "inadvertantly mis-placed them," allowing Scientology members to win the contest.

The second letter of commendation from Susan Stewart is a form of "confusion,"
used by Scientologists to overpower their opponents.

       L. Ron Hubbard Lecture, 20 May 1952 "Decision."

"A confused person has their conscious mind busy and occupied, and is very much inclined to draw upon unconscious learnings to make sense of things. A confused person is in a trance of their own making - and therefore goes readily into that trance without resistance. Confusion might be created by ambiguous words, complex or endless sentences, pattern interruption or a myriad other techniques to incite transderivational searches, (TDS.)

The battle for the minds of Sunland-Tujunga has just started.

THE BARBARIANS ARE INSIDE THE GATES!
by David DeMulle'

And here is another version of the letter that was “leaked” to us by a local person. Sunland-Tujunga can finally realize how in depth the Scientology tentacles have covered our community. What was once a benign group of neighbors has turned into a power grabbing group of liars and manipulators? Our respected Rotary Club president has taken the reins with his wife and turned the club into a Scientology war room.

Tomi-Lyn Bowling, a noted Realtor and chairman of the Land Use committee has possibly used her position to give favors to her church friends. As part of their taking over the S-T community, they have increased their attacks against The Foothills Paper and continue to discredit Doc the editor. By using their newly acquired newsletter (The Voice of The Village) they have been able to subtly put out Scientology information to the unsuspecting community.

This letter from Rotarian Richard Stewart to the “Master at Arms” of Scientology International headquarters in Florida outlines their sustained attacks on the foothills community. The glitzy food trucks, the illegal “No Parking” signs, the abuse of Chamber powers, the overriding of local business are all part of the program to take over our town. Possibly that is why the copyrighted materials were given to the VHHS students by Rotarian Stewart to run in the Voice?

It’s your town, it’s your community, do you want these outsiders to take over and kick you out? Think about it when the STNC elections come up in a couple of weeks.

"MAA FSO June 19, 2012

COMMENDATION
Tomi Lyn Bowling

Tomi Lyn is on the Board of Directors of the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce and was part of the committee that investigated the possibility of gourmet food trucks coming to Sunland-Tujunga (the largest concentration of Scientologists living in a community in the world.)

The committee visited a nearby city that regularly had the gourmet food trucks and they surveyed the owners of the food trucks as well as the surrounding brick and mortar businesses. They found that the gourmet food trucks were very successful in bringing in public to the area, both to the existing businesses and the food trucks.

On June 6, 2012, Tomi and the committee brought the gourmet food trucks to Foothill Blvd in Sunland for the first time. The trucks are regularly scheduled for every Wednesday night. The trucks brought a tremendous amount of life to the area, bringing the whole area uptone. Some of the businesses set out tables and chairs or made space for musicians to play. By the second week, several small “booths” were selling things and it was a carnival like atmosphere with lots and lots of people.

This is all set up outside the doors of the Sunland Mission, bringing a large amount public to the doorstep of the Mission and many people into the Mission to find out more about Scientology.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce, Sonia Tatulian, told Susan tonight, “Your church is great! They love the gourmet food trucks. They have opened their doors and set up a table and sitting area inside so people can come in and get their questions answered.”

Now here is the real win: This town has had a toxic SP (Doc Demule) who has been holding the whole area down with constant negativity, criticism and invalidation of anything with a hint of theta. Richard watched this guy attack Tomi and over a year’s time saw a beautiful handling where she simply applied LRH tech of “Flourish and Prosper.”

Tomi was getting attacked on a local neighborhood blog where she had numerous followers and was a sitting target for criticism from Doc and / or his minions. Tomi simply applied “Flourish and Prosper” and started her own neighborhood FaceBook magazine for the community (The Sunland-Tujunga Independent).

Tomi now has total control of her comm and the neighborhoods comm and it is way uptone and pro-survival for the whole area. Meanwhile, Doc has gone into apathy as he is cut off from the volume of theta that Tomi is creating including the successful food trucks mentioned above. It’s almost like the whole town is singing “Ding, dong, the witch is dead!”

Very well done Tomi!! And thank you, thank you, thank you.

Chamber President Sonia Tatulian Goes Off Deep End!

Ms. Tatulian who has developed some kind of mental problem.  As president of the s-t chamber of commerce, she has destroyed the business community and is working on destroying the service organizations here.  In her recent attacks on community leaders, she published this missive:

"To all who have been damaged by the lies of Doc(David Demulle), my sources tell me that his hearing on selling guns in this community is end of this month if not the first week of July. This is his 3rd felony conviction and he is getting ready to be locked up for good. Any of you that are interested we will let you know the date so you could attend and say farewell to him. 7 years of lies and tearing this community apart surely will have its day in court. On this Sunday a Holly Day, I pray that he gets everything coming to him and then some. Amen"

I guess that in Russia, they don't have charges filed, court cases, and sentencing.  And I don't think the god she prays to is listening.  It's time that she goes away.

Using the mantra of "Lie, Cheat & Steal", Ms Tatulian has threatened and forced business owners to join the chamber.  The chamber books are a farce and she has drained the treasury of all it's funds.  She is a threat to all free people in the Foothills Region.  Teaming up with Tomi-Lyn Bowling, land use committee chairman, has driven businesses out of the Sunland-Tujunga Area.  With the help of Cindy Cleghorn and suspected psycho joe barrett, Ms. Tatulian has destroyed the American way of life and is now trying to create a Scientologist community in Sunland-Tujunga.

Using a bogus "Arrest Record", she and joe barrett have been running around calling The Foothills Paper editor Doc, a twice convicted felon.  Either she is really stupid, or she is just basing her rant on the fake material that joe barrett is promoting as real.  Sorry fellas, you are just making yourselves look as stupid as psycho joe.

It's amazing what you can do when truth doesn't get in the way!............

Proctologists delight Sonia Tatulian, is so far out of touch with reality, that she is depending on her buddy Joe "Loose Bowels" Barrett to guide her through the day.  Sonia (God love her), posted this this morning in an attempt to gain favor with her new Scientologist friends.

"To all who have been damaged by the lies of Doc(David Demulle), my sources tell me that his hearing on selling guns in this community is end of this month if not the first week of July. This his his 3rd felony conviction and he is getting ready to be locked up for good. Some day over a beer, we will laugh our tails off about Sonia, who was "released" from her job at B of A and became president for life of the local chamber of commerce and began her relationship with Joe. She then failed in her gay relationship and now is celibate, taking care of her father and collecting social security. Sunland-Tujunga is becoming a hotbed of wannabe wackos running their mouths off.

CROSS OF SAN YSIDRO

Dr. David DeMulle' and I are doing research on the Cross of San Ysidro and I came across this letter from the Kiwanis a couple of years ago.  Does anyone have any pictures of the cross being re-built?

"HE HAS RISEN!

By Dave Bellusci

The Sunland-Tujunga Kiwanis Club, in association with the Ministerial association will sponsor the 85th annual Easter Sunrise Celebration at the Cross of San Ysidro this Easter Morning.

This celebration at the cross originally came about when the local ministers and Kiwanis Club got together and started the early morning service, and it has grown to what it is today.  The Kiwanis Club doesn’t perform the service, the Ministerial Association does.  There are five ministers from five of the churches in the Sunland-Tujunga area that are involved providing the service.  Each minister does a part of the whole service, which is non-sectarian.

Over the past 85 years the Kiwanis Club has gotten the cross and the area ready for the service.  On Saturday the club members clean up the area, bring up the chairs and repaint the cross if it needs some touch-up work.  The road coming up to the cross is graded using a tractor and driven by one of the club members.  The Kiwanis Club provides that chairs, sound system, lighting of the cross, which is lit Saturday night and stays on ‘til after the service.

All the setting up for the service is done by the club members.  The preparation takes all day and Saturday and one of the members will spend the night at the cross.  There are four to five hundred people that attend the service.  At first they would stand during the service.  Then the club was bale to get milk crates from the old Anawalt Lumber to sit on.  When both the market and lumber yard closed, we had one of our members, a masonry contractor, donated the blocks and planks.  After he moved we started using chairs, which we are still using.

In all the years that the service has been put on, and in my years of being involved with the Kiwanis Club and the Easter Sunrise Service, it has only been rained out twice and had to have the service indoors.  The other bad thing that happened was vandals tore down the cement cross.  These were two youngsters that pulled the cross down.  The club set up a temporary wooden cross, and that too was pulled down.  The club put up another wooden cross and had several members spend the night guarding the cross and area.

The vandals were apprehended and their parents paid to have the cross rebuilt as it is standing now.  This happened in 1974.

Starting at 4:30 a.m. Easter Morning the club members start transporting the celebrants up to the cross.  The Kiwanis Club at first started using their own cars to transport the people up to the cross, but the road took its toll on the members cars.  That is when they started to use the tractor to grade the road.  What the club has done now is work with the YMCA and have their driver and large van take the people up to the cross.

The club rents two 12 to 15 passenger vans.  The reason is that there will only be the vans going back and forth from the starting point, which is to the cross, and after the service, take them back down to the starting point.  After all the people are gone, the club tears everything down, and the equipment, chairs, etc. are gone and the place is cleaned up within a couple of hours.

Sandy Miller had dedicated a lot of time and energy in putting on the Easter Sunrise Service as a long time member of the club.  Sandy passed away five years ago and his family continues to work on putting on the Easter Sunrise.

We, the Sunland-Tujunga Kiwanis Club dedicate the Easter Sunrise Service to Sandy Miller and his family.  His sons still carry on the tradition."

With a panicked call to Stn. 74 about a smoke plume in the Big Tujunga Canyon Wash, an engine and truck were dispatched to the homeless camp.  It turned out that the residents had run out of propane and were using damp wood for their cook fire.  Everything ended well.  Photos by David DeMulle

This afternoon, a car coming out of the gas station at Pinewood and Foothill Blvd. made a left hand turn into the path of this motorcycle.  Although he was not going very fast, he had to lay the bike down and sustained a minor injury to his elbow.  Sorry that there are no pictures, I was first responder at the incident.

Memorial Day at Sunland Park was a chance for neighbors to get together and support our veterans of wars past.  The Sunland-Tujunga American Legion Post held a small ceremony with a table set for a MIA.  Hot dogs and hamburgers with all the trimmings were provided free to the community.

Home Fire Safety - Be Prepared Photos by David DeMulle

With wildfire season upon us, it's time to check out your home fire fighting capabilities.  Remember, the fire department may not be able to respond to your site.  Check your generators, water pumps, and hose lines.

DO NOT rely on your garden hose for fire suppression. When the Fire Department turns on the hydrant down the street, your water pressure will drop to 20#.

Unsung Heroes

“THE BAD STUFF IS EASIER TO BELIEVE.  YOU EVER NOTICE    THAT?"    JULIA ROBERTS Pretty woman

History is littered with those who made great discoveries, performed great deeds or just changed the World, but whatabout those names that only appear in our everyday lives? That don’t jump out at you like Edison or Steve Jobs?
Think about it.  Did they break with convention? Did they offend the establishment? Were they quiet about their accomplishments? Possibly all of those things.
In this series, I’m going to start off with four people that I personally know and consider to have been movers and shakers in our community but who have mysteriously escaped becoming household names. I’m going to try and set the record straight and give them credit where credit is due.  I really hope that you the reader, will contribute names and stories of your “unsung heroes.”  Those who make you feel good when you hear their names. Everyday people doing everyday things.  Things that make life easier and safer for those around us.

I want you to think about the last time you read a really great uplifting story.  I know that you have read stories about the dog that saved his master or how the bear wandering the neighborhood was safely returned to the wild. But the truth is, that happy stories are far and few between. And what about that story that was so terrible you had to re-read it, and when you wanted to be updated on the story, it had just simply disappeared?  “Old News” they say.
Today, we are going to talk about Brent Talmo of Los Angeles.
When Brent Talmo retired from the Maywood Police Department in 2008 he never planned on seeing his service records on the internet. He was just another person, a neighbor, a community member that did his job and went home every night.  But like the “masked crusader” who retires tohis secret identity and tries to forget the daily mayhem that surrounded him, our police officers have to go back to their homes, wives and families.
Their stories are never really covered.  That is, not until the sensationalist media needs material for a dull edition.  Then the truth gets bent. Actually distorted, all in the name of “creating” a news story.  One of these victims was Brent Talmo, and I want to set the record straight.
Brent started his law enforcement career by joining the Los Angeles County Sheriff department in 1986 and then moved on to the Housing Authority Police Department in 1986.
Talmo became a police officer for the Hawaiian Gardens Police department known for its Gang infested areas and crime rates being high. He stayed with them until the dept closed five years later in 1991.  The Maywood police dept was his next assignment and he was assigned to the patrol division and became a Senior Lead Officer in charge of Officer Training as well as working in the Los Angeles Housing Authority drug elimination program.  Moving up through the ranks he became a field training officer, acting sergeant and team leader.
Not only was Talmo a dedicated officer, but he went the extra mile in his skills and training as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and drug recognitions expert. He took classes on problem oriented policing of SWAT operations and a course in Handling people with Tact and Diplomacy and as a Peacemaker.
Talmo was involved in, and given awards for working with the Traffic Collisions Board, the Special Response Teams, and for being team leader. Talmo was presented  the Police Star Award and given the The MEDAL OF VALOR twice.  This is the  highest award given by the Los Angeles HAPD.  This is a man who learned by his mistakes and became an example for all to follow.
But nobody would know what he did before he retired.  Heroes don’t toot their own horn.  And that is why:
Brent Talmo is our “Unsung Hero!”
The Medal of Valor-2, The Police Star Award, The Medal of Valor
